None of the other bigger headed titanium drivers felt like it or could produce the kind of driver flight you need for windy days. I'd only ever had second hand stuff before, but decided to splash out on my first ever new driver and the 983K was just out.
What our test results reveal is that not all titanium drivers perform the same and, with a specific set of conditions, some drivers can give you a significant distance advantage. In this case, with a 90mph swing speed, the Srixon was unbeatable.
Hindo, don't try and suck me into posting now. Yes it had a YS6, was a 9.5°. I played it a lil further back in my stance to keep it down a lil.
This is what the GD rep said about the YS6: The YS6 has the softest feel of all the GD's currently available and also has the highest torque. It will work especially well for slower swing speeds and smoother tempos, gives a slightly higher ball flight with a really soft feel. For a better stronger player with a faster tempo I would have a look at a YS7, though don't go to stiff.
Will punch it out flat and long with low spin. This is one of the best graphite wood shafts available.
So, a few years into the Rule for limiting the COR of a Driver to 0.83 and, while browsing a certain auction site, I've found quite a few Non-Conforming ones up for sale. Now I'll be the first to admit that the current crop of drivers probably out-drive the Hi-COR variants that were outlawed but none of the clubs up for sale mentioned the non-conformity of the head.
Whether the COR rule was right or wrong is neither here nor there. A Newbie to the game, or somone on a tight budget, could buy one of these clubs and be using it in next Month's Medal. They're pretty cheap, a TM XR-05 went for less than 25 quid including postage. So if you thought a Non-Conforming Driver was being used in a Competition.
Would this worry you? Would you do something about it?
Would you know what is and what isn't legal? If you answer No to any of these questions, could you be accused of cherry-picking the Rules you want to follow? Titleist 983k Driver Review
Would you know what is and what isn't legal? If you answer No to any of these questions, could you be accused of cherry-picking the Rules you want to follow? I think its ruling was/is dafter than the current ban were all talking about. If you were to match up a Titleist 983k hcr against the Taylormade R1 with matching spec, I would put my money that the R1 would go further. Back in the early 2000s much was made of the 'trampoline' effect but in reality this was only aiding people who struggled to get the ball airborne thus giving more enjoyment and distance off the tee. What's wrong with that?? Very few tour players actually used the high COR as they could not control the ball flight.
No it wouldn't worry me 2. I wouldn't say anything and if someone else did, then they clearly have too much time on there hands. I could spot one a mile away as most had markings to look for (cobra had unlimited or Cor figure in red and titleist made the lettering on the brand red, as examples) but as the ban has been round for 7 years now I think its generally forgotten about at club level.
